Production of Alcohol in 19th Century Cork

My research project will focus on the brewing and distilling industries in Cork in the 19th Century. My line of enquiry will be part social history and part sociological how these generating revenue; and how the brewing and distilling industries shaped the contours of Cork social life and attitudes, creating an embedded drinking culture, which sparked in opposition the emergence of the Temperance movement.

In terms of creating a digital archive I aim to use an aspect of spatial visualisation and mapping to plot the locations of distilleries, breweries and licensed premises around the city. I would like to create a digital artefact, which provides an accessible visual and text narrative related to my research findings.
